Acceptable Use Policy for Technology (PDF)
The Academy of Our Lady of Peace has seen major advancements in the available technology throughout the school campus. Through generous donations, NJ State grants and countless hours of volunteers from our school and parish community, our students, staff and faculty have jumped into the 21st century.
Are our students and faculty connected to the Internet?
Yes. Back in March of 2001, all of the classrooms, library, art room, Religious Education offices, administrative offices, auditorium/gymnasium, rectory and convent were wired to a Local Area Network (LAN). This network allows for shared printer services, shared files, wireless access, and access to a high-speed Internet connection. This network is protected by a state-of-the-art firewall and Internet-content filtering program. All of our students must sign an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) form, which states the rules and regulations of using the school’s network.
Do we have any SMART technology?
to learn more. Yes. We are so excited about using our
interactive whiteboard technology in the classrooms of our Academy. With a
touch-sensitive SMART board and the wireless SMART AirLiner tablets, our
teachers can integrate technology into daily lessons and our students have
fun in the process. Students are engaged in the learning and the teachers
have a large array of lessons they can use and enhance from the SMART
online community. With the wireless slates, the teachers can teach from
anywhere in the classroom (up to 52" away) and the students can interact
with information right from their seats!
What equipment do we have?
In addition to our network and SMART technology, we have over 60 PCs running Windows. We also have a wireless
laptop portable lab that is used regularly in the Middle School classrooms and library for research purposes. The library,
music room, and art room also have computers. Many different educational programs, including the Microsoft Office
XP suite, are installed for classroom technology integration. All of our computers are connected to the LAN. The school’s computer lab is equipped with 25 instructional computers. We also make use of digital cameras and a digital video camcorder for classroom and lab projects.
We also have Digital Blue Cameras and a Techno K'Nex Modeling system to
add to the fun in technology.
Do our students take a computer class?
Yes. Each of our students in Grades Pre-K4 to 8 visits the computer lab once a week for a full period of computer instruction. Word processing, drawing programs, typing programs, web-page development programs, graphing programs, spreadsheets, databases and multi-media presentation software are a sampling of what our students encounter throughout the school year, with various degrees of difficulty depending on their grade level. Our upper grade students study computer architecture, terminology,
Cyber Safety, and the appropriate use of Internet communication and search mechanisms.
You can see that The Academy of Our Lady of Peace has made a major effort and commitment to our students, faculty and parents to enhance the learning process with technology and to prepare our students for a world in which technology is a necessity!
