The Academy of Our Lady of Peace, as part of the Archdiocese of Newark, takes part in the TerraNova national standardized assessment program.
The TerraNova, Third edition, Assessment, published by CTB-McGraw Hill, is aligned with the archdiocesan curricula and NJ state standards. This battery of tests is given to students in both public and private schools across the country.
The information that is learned from this assessment not only helps us to understand student progress, it also helps us to continually fine tune our academic curriculum.
Brother Ralph Darmento, F.S.C., deputy superintendent of schools for the archdiocese, recently stated, "Once again our students' performance is an indication that our curricula and instruction have set high standards for our students and our students are responding admirably." That is especially true of our students at The Academy of Our Lady of Peace who continue to score well above the National Percentile average for all subject areas.
Below is a chart depicting the reading, language arts, and math achievements of our students in Grades
2 to 7 for the 2009-2010 school year. Grade 2 Language Arts is included in
the Reading assessment. Grade 8 is not included in the chart because those students partake in another test called the COOP exam which is used for entrance into private Catholic high schools.
Congratulations to our students on a job well done!
